Take it up, Take it in

This is one of many “this is how I spent my time in Canada” posts that will hopefully materialise in the few couple of weeks. I know it’s been very quiet on here, but that just goes to show how much fun I have been having!!

Yesterday my housemate and I took ourselves down to Kensington Market…that is the place I bought this dress. Taking advantage of the rows of lovely shops and the very fortuitous conversion rate I bought a couple of dresses and a playsuit.

One of the dresses I bought as a project. It was on the $5 rack, so with tax cost me £3. It looks like this….

What’s great about my particular skill set is that I feel I am well up to the challenge of making this into a nice, fitted sundress. This is my plan…

dress plan

Basically my plan is to pull of all the 80’s extras to go back to the basic pencil shape. The collar has a fusible interfacing so I won’t be able to use that for anything else, so that is going in the bin. I’m going to unpick the waist seam to remove the peplum, then stitch the two parts back together. The peplum is quite gathered so there will be enough fabric to face a split in the back of the skirt to allow a little more room for walking – it’s kinda “hoble-y” at the moment. The sleeves I want to take up to a bicep level. I’m undecided as to whether I want to remove the sleeve and reset it to take out some of the gathers or not. I’m going to wait until I have the collar off first to see how the proportions work. Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll have time to make this plan a reality.

Watch the space!
